Nature of the work: Under the supervision of the Office of Health Equity and Racial Justice (HERJ) Program Manager, the Community Health Outreach Project Coordinator will develop and implement outreach strategies for the Hispanic community. The coordinator will facilitate the translation into Spanish of health program presentations and health education materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate outreach programs and activities for targeted populations. Ensure community awareness of local health priorities and other public health messages
  • Provide support in maintaining daily operations
  • Prepare informative reports regarding projects for the Hispanic community
  • Assist with budget preparation and tracking to ensure appropriate expenses (e.g., services, equipment, and training) and research to support grant applications
  • Review and assist grant partners in the development and modification of program plans relating to grant programs
  • Provide recommendations for other health programs for the Hispanic American population as needed
  • Serve as a liaison between the Department of Health and the Hispanic community to help achieve health promotion and prevention goals and objectives
  • Provide technical support and monitor community beneficiaries
  • Coordinate special events with health promotion and prevention messages in the Hispanic community and faith-based settings
  • Research and identify emerging health issues that will effectively improve the health of the Hispanic American population
  • Translate existing health education materials into Spanish and help design culturally appropriate Spanish educational materials
  • Support and promote health-related events within the Department as requested and approved by the Program Manager and Program Director. Reports to work as scheduled and maintains schedule of activities. May be designated as an emergency essential employee at the time of an emergency.
  • Respond to call drills or actual emergency events as soon as possible, regardless of when the message is received

Minimum qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a state high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Must be able to read, write and speak fluently, in English and Spanish. Experience in community outreach and engagement as well as health education in the community. Excellent customer service skills.
