(CBS DETROIT) – Hamtramck is a small Detroit suburb with a large immigrant community.
According to Ali Ali of Muslim Family Services, a community is underinsured, uninsured and in need of access to resources.

“They can’t go to the hospital and a lot of them are sick,” Ali said.
“In the last two weeks we’ve lost about four, five people.”
On Tuesday, ICNA Relief Michigan joined Wayne Metro and Wayne Health for a day of service.
“Wayne Metro is a one-stop social service agency,” said Mia Harnos, COO of Wayne Metro Community Action Agency.

“We help you end to end in case of an emergency, you are behind on your rent, you received a stop notice on your DTE bill, maybe your water bill is overdue.
Health screenings, covid vaccines, food and utility assistance were made available to families free of charge.
The new monthly initiative will also provide the community with assistance with housing, tax preparation, home repairs and weatherization during the winter months.
“And it’s about getting into the community and reaching the hard-to-reach populations,” Harnos explained.
The event returns every first Tuesday of the month at ICNA Headquarters, 12500 Mitchell St, Detroit, MI 48212, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
