The McAllen Public Library will be hosting a Community Health Fair on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Main Library at 4001 23rd Nolana Street and Avenue. Attendees are invited to take advantage of free health screenings, local on-site providers, information stations and children’s crafts.

“The Health Fair is an opportunity for our community to receive free health checkups and interact with local health and wellness providers,” said Library Manager Kate Horan. “Together with our health partners, the McAllen Public Library raises awareness of the many free and low-cost local health resources available. We want to encourage all individuals, but especially those with disabilities, veterans, or who are uninsured, to learn more about where to seek health services in the Rio Grande Valley.

Dr. Martin Ekoumou, MD, and students from UTRGV-UT Health Rio Grande Valley, Southern Careers Institute, and College of Health Care Professionals will be on hand to provide free health screenings, such as pressure checks blood pressure, BMI, diabetes and cholesterol tests. . Other organizations such as Texas A&M Healthy South Texas, Valley AIDS Council, Unidos Contra la Diabetes and many more will be sharing information about their services to the community.

The Family Health Fair is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library at (956) 681-3000, or visit www.mcallenlibrary.net.

The library will also launch Care4Me, the new McAllen Public Library program offering a confidential location inside the library for patrons to access real-time telehealth services. The dedicated conference room in the main library lobby will offer a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a webcam to facilitate virtual or video meetings for users. Customers will also have basic equipment at their disposal, such as a blood pressure cuff with disinfection after each use. The telehealth service and equipment is made possible by a grant to the McAllen Public Library from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) and the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS).
