Truckee Lions Club to Host Community Health Fair

TRUCKEE, Calif. – In celebration of its 90th anniversary, the Truckee Host Lions Club is sponsoring a community health fair that will offer free family health screenings from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 at the Truckee Community Recreation Center, located at 10981 Truckee Road.

The health fair will include free vision, diabetes and blood pressure screenings; free dental screenings and fluoride treatments offered to children; and free flu shots while supplies last. Lions in Sight of California and Nevada will provide free reading glasses to those who may need them, and Truckee Lions will provide organic products to families who will be screened at the health fair. Participants will leave with a confidential health checklist and, upon request, a list of referrals to area medical resources.

Community groups will also have information booths. For example, the Truckee Highway Patrol Office in California and the Truckee Police Department will partner to offer free child safety seat inspections and installation assistance. Agencies will also offer free child safety seats if a new one is needed while supplies last.

Anyone with questions about the event can contact the Truckee Lions at 530-563-6776.

The Truckee Host Lions Club is sponsoring the health fair to give back to the community, said club president Lou LaManna.

“The Lions slogan is ‘We Serve,’ and providing free health screenings in our community is a great way for our club to do just that,” she said.

She said the health fair would not be possible without the club’s community partners: Lions in Sight of California and Nevada; Tahoe Forest Community Health and Wellness Neighborhood; Orvis Student Nurses’ Association at the University of Nevada, Reno; Placer County Health and Human Services Oral Health Program; Nevada County Public Health Oral Health Program; Placer County Public Health and Social Services; and ONE by Raley.
