Allentown, Pennsylvania – The Allentown Housing Authority (AHA) this week partnered with regional health providers and services to provide free dental care, health services and neighborhood resources to seniors, residents with disabilities and neighbors.

The Community Health and Wellness Day, sponsored by Highmark Wholecare, included a tour of the United Concordia Dental Tour which visits sites across Pennsylvania this month, as well as neighborhood health centers in the Valley of Lehigh, Weis Pharmacy, Silver Sneakers, Lehigh Valley Active Life, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and others.

The festival ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gross Towers on West Allen Street and 26 people received free dental cleanings and x-rays. More than 200 people from Gross Towers, Towers East and the surrounding neighborhood attended throughout the day, according to Cesar Núñez of Highmark Wholecare.

“Many of our residents are elderly or have disabilities that prevent them from seeing their healthcare providers as often as they should,” said AHA CEO Dan Farrell. “We really appreciate the cooperation and assistance we receive from our partners who allow us to organize an event like this to help them all receive this care.”

Attendees were also able to receive COVID reminders, speak to representatives from their own health insurance, and find nutrition and lifestyle information that will improve their overall health and well-being.

The United Concordia Dental Tour started in Philadelphia before coming to Allentown. The tour will also visit Harrisburg, York, Carlisle, Pittsburgh and Erie, Núñez said.
