Community Health Fair in Seymour

In an effort to keep Jackson County residents healthy and happy, a community health fair will be held outside a Seymour elementary school.

It is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 24 at the playground of Margaret R. Brown Elementary School, 550 Miller Lane.

The fair will not only provide general health information and community resources, but the event will also feature screenings and assessments, an immunization clinic, food, giveaways and more.

Jackson County United Way’s Ashley Caceres and Jackson County’s Su Casa said United Way is partnering with the Indiana Department of Health to host next month’s event.

“They reached out and mentioned that Jackson County is a county with unique vaccine needs, especially for infants,” Caceres said. “They wanted to offer a free vaccination clinic for our county because their data shows that many families don’t do well with follow-up vaccines for infants.”

In response, Caceres said it was decided to hold a community health fair.

“We chose this location because it’s a very walkable space, and lots of people in the surrounding apartments and neighborhood walk through this playground, so it’s very visible with lots of people passing by” , she said.

Caceres said the Indiana Department of Health will provide the free vaccination clinic for adults and children.

“They strongly recommend that people register for the clinic in advance, but they accept walk-in visits,” she said. “There will also be community resources available, and right now I believe we have 15 or 16 agencies and providers signed up.”

Caceres said the goal is to get people vaccinated and provide health resources to those in need.

“So a lot of good things are happening with this, and if any agencies or vendors would like to have a table at this event, please contact us. We would love to have you there,” she said.

Caceres said she encourages agencies and providers to bring gifts, games and maybe things for kids to do during the health fair, but more important is the health information that they will bring to families in need.
