MedWorks hosts a series of free community health clinics

CLEVELAND — A network of doctors and volunteers are teaming up to help Northeast Ohio residents in need. The group, MedWorks, is hosting a series of health clinics, one of which will begin Friday, April 29 at Lakeland Community College. This clinic will focus on dental care.

At a MedWorks health clinic, there are no qualifications, required documents, or paperwork. It’s also free.

“We’ve seen about 45,000 people, participants…since MedWorks was founded in 2009,” said Charnell Chapman, executive director of MedWorks. “It’s basically about helping our neighbors develop good habits, helping to maintain their health.”

Chapman says that while caregiving is essential, his team also focuses on health care, insurance and registration education.

“Cleveland is one of the most underinsured populations,” she said. “The most important element of our ‘Care Plus Connect’ is the connection with our navigators. So what they do is they meet their patients, they develop a relationship of trust with them, and then they monitor their aftercare and will also try to enroll them and help them enroll in eligible health insurance exchanges, as well as find them a medical home.

The MedWorks team also provides global resources “to ensure that [patients] have everything they need [like] housing, food [and] any other resource that might be difficult for them.
