UAMS, Rose Drug of Dardanelle Partners to Provide Community Health Worker in Yell County
| FAYETTEVILLE — Michele Shoptaw was recently hired through a partnership between the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Rose Drug of Dardanelle to help Yell County residents navigate the healthcare system.
As an integrated community health worker, Shoptaw is available to answer basic health care questions and provide education and resources to the public. Community health workers work within their communities to help the public get the care they need and answer essential health care questions, such as when someone should see a doctor, and provide information about vaccines.
“We are thrilled to be working with Michele to provide the people of Yell County with a new resource as we enter the next and hopefully final stage of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Stephanie Kruger, Associate Director community programs in the UAMS Office of Community Health and Research. “We are also thrilled to work with Rose Drug of Dardanelle and the community of Yell County as we work to create better health for all people of Arkansas.”
Rose Drug of Dardanelle is located at 1176 State Hwy 22 West, Suite A, Dardanelle and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. To contact the pharmacy or Shoptaw with health or vaccine-related questions, call 479-229-4040.

UAMS’ Northwestern Regional Campus includes 288 medical, pharmacy, nursing, and health professions students, 64 medical and pharmacy residents, two sports medicine fellows, and 1,000 community faculty. The campus has nine clinics, including a student-run clinic and physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy services. Professors conduct research to reduce health disparities.
